Why should you visit Australia in the winter? For starters, it helps to know when winter is on the continent.
Travel Triangle lets people in the Northern Hemisphere know that winter in Australia happens in the months of June, July, and August. Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania can even have temperatures plummet below freezing, which is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 degrees Celsius, depending on the scale you're using.
In regards to why you should visit during the winter, there are quite a few reasons. If you're flying there from North America or Europe, then the Australian winter might coincide nicely with summer vacation from your local school year. This makes it much easier for the whole family to fly together, especially for a longer trip than normal. Given the flight times involved and how much there is to see and do, you want to allow plenty of time for your Oz adventure.
Secondly, winter makes Australia a lot easier for non-natives to bear in regards to weather and climate. While the continent is very diverse in terms of regions, it's still a very arid place with a lot of deserts. The cooler months let you see a lot more places while enjoying temperate or milder weather.
Third, there are things that specifically happen either in winter or are just best to see in winter. One of them is the Dark Mofo fest in Tasmania. These events bring together over half the island's population for food, fun, and festivities unlike any other.
Also, if you want to witness some of those famous Australian crocodiles, winter is a great time to do it. Crocs are cold-blooded creatures, so this is their time of year. A crocodile cruise out of Adelaide is a great chance to see these awe-inspiring creatures, from the safety of a guided tour boat.
While some of the southern areas of the continent get cool or even cold during the local winter, you can still take advantage of the endless beaches. Australia has tens of thousands of miles of beautiful beaches, so you can still swim in several different oceans, sunbathe, surf, or watch dolphins play in the waves. There are plenty of things to do here.
