Kangaroo Island is a part of Australia that no traveller should ever miss while exploring the vast country and continent. Situated just 70 miles off the South Australian coast, Kangaroo Island is just a short journey from the mainland and offers visitors the chance to see a different side of Australia.

A Variety of Wildlife

Australia is home to some of the world’s most unique wildlife creatures, and Kangaroo Island is no exception. One of the most apparent animals that can be found here is the kangaroo. Koalas and wallabies are also native to the island. Visitors may even get the chance to see some Australian sea lions and New Zealand fur seals along the coast. Boat tours that include swimming with dolphins can also be taken.

Fine Goods for Sale

Many stores and separate vendors on Kangaroo Island sell various food, clothing, and other valuable items produced locally. Visitors can buy some fresh fish or grain-fed beef to take with them on their journey. Ligurian bee honey and southern rock lobster are also sold here. Visitors can additionally buy wool clothing and eucalyptus oil.

Excellent National Parks

Some of Australia’s best national parks can be found on Kangaroo Island. Flinders Chase National Park features a series of uniquely shaped rocks and an animal sanctuary that has helped preserve the survival of endangered species throughout its history. South Australia’s first lighthouse can be seen at Cape Willoughby Conservation Park. Other parks worth checking out include Key Hill Conservation Park, Baudin Conservation Park and the park at Seal Bay.

Little Sahara

A section of the island known as Little Sahara is famous for its beautiful dunes, and avid hikers often enjoy hiking along the dunes as part of a desert excursion. Sandboarding, which is essentially snowboarding on the sand, is another popular activity that many people enjoy while spending time at the dunes. The dunes range from small to large, with the tallest measuring roughly 70 meters.

A visit to Kangaroo Island offers a great way to venture off the beaten path and learn more about Australia’s wonders. From its intriguing environment to its local charm, Kangaroo Island can provide travellers with many beautiful experiences.
