Becoming a leader in your church is an admirable goal, but it is one that can be difficult to achieve. A leader of any organization has to have certain traits, and that is just as true of church leaders as it is for a CEO or an office manager. Some of these traits can be learned while others come more naturally, but they should be on display if you want to lead your congregation and your church worship team effectively.
First of all, you need to learn how to be a good influence on people. A leader influences and inspires people to get things done, and while this does come more naturally to some people than others, anybody can learn how to be more influential. In some cases, it's all about simply doing the right thing and being a good example to others. In other cases, it's about having the confidence to speak to people and inspire them to act. A good leader can do both of these things, although this doesn't mean that they should be pushy or bossy.
A good leader will be able to tell others what they should be doing, but they are also compassionate and try to bring out the best in people. This is especially important for church leaders. A church leader's ultimate goal is to help spread the message of their church. This means being a mentor to people who need it and believing in the best of others in your congregation.
Second of all, a good church leader should be a great planner. Whether you're scheduling a fundraiser for your church or helping to write the next sermon, you need to be able to plan everything out. Yes, some people can improvise and essentially act without a plan in place, but that is incredibly risky under the best of circumstances. Other people depend on you to keep things running smoothly, so take the time to write a plan for anything you need to do.
Finally, a good church leader will know their limits. You can't handle everything when it comes to being a church leader, so know when to step back and delegate tasks to others. As long as you are respectful of them and have proven to be a good mentor, they will be willing to work with you and handle just about any task required of them.
