Throughout history, the Christian Church has continued to evolve and grow around the world and is currently considered one of the fastest-growing Christian groups in the United Kingdom. The first signs of the modern Pentecostal Church took place in the 19th century, during the Wesleyan-inspired Holiness movement. In the following years, the movement would continue to gain traction, with evidence of its evolution before the end of the 19th century. In 1901, a student named Agnes Ozman began speaking in tongues while attending her bible school in Kansas, which many say marked the beginning of the modern pentecostal movement. As more individuals began speaking tongues, Christian groups began to move to Texas.
After the growth of the movement in Texas, the Pentecostal Church continued to spread its movement across the United States, including in Los Angeles. Following the major San Francisco earthquake in 1906, the movement took off, with more followers looking at how to create a personal relationship with God.
In 1914, the first Pentecostal denomination was created in the United Kingdom, with the United States following suit in 1914 with the opening of the Church of God In Christ. By 1915, additional churches began popping up around the world.
Today, the Pentecostal Church continues to grow and thrive as more followers look at how to transform their lives through God and the Holy Spirit. Baptism is one of the most important parts of the Pentecostal movement, as it is believed that a second baptism can help bring you closer to God and, ultimately, salvation.
