The Best Places to Travel in October

Holiday time can seem like a distant memory when school starts back up and work returns to its usual hectic place. Fortunately, there are plenty of fun places to travel in October for a quick getaway. Many places become even more beautiful when the leaves turn orange and red. Pumpkins appear on doorsteps and jumpers make a return appearance. Here’s a list of the best places to travel this autumn.

New York City, New York

New York City is amazing any time of year, but there's something particularly special about visiting it in the fall. All the trees in Central Park turn beautiful colors, and the air becomes crisp and inviting.

New York is bursting with museums, theater, and amazing cuisine. There's truly something for everyone here. It's fun to visit New York over Halloween weekend and see all the costumes people are wearing on the subway. It makes an ordinary commute into something magical.

The Blue Mountains, New South Wales Australia

Australia's capital, Sydney, is located in New South Wales, but there's so much more to see here than just the Sydney Opera House. The Blue Mountains are a beautiful national park just 100 kilometers (62 miles) from Sydney. The reason the Blue Mountains look blue is because of the eucalyptus oil in the trees.

Michigan, United States

Michigan is amazing to visit in the fall. There's so much to do here, from enjoying a sandwich at Zingerman's to cheering on the Wolverines at the University of Michigan games and gazing up at the stars. Michigan is home to six Dark Sky Preserves across its state parks. These preserves offer unspoiled views of the night sky, including the Milky Way.

Acadia National Park, Maine, United States

New England is a famous favorite for experiencing fall foliage, and Acadia is one of the most beautiful places to do it. Visitors can drive down Park Loop Road, gaze out from Cadillac Mountain, and sit on the grass in front of Jordan Pond House.

Prague, Czech Republic

Prague is one of the best places in Europe to visit in the autumn. Trees line the Vltava River in splendid color. Hanavský Pavilion is the perfect lookout point for capturing the city's beauty in fall. Visit in mid-to-late October to capture the trees at their most vibrant.
